Aerial photography

Photo: COWI A/S
The optimal season for aerial photography is spring, before foliation. However, aerial photography can be carried out throughout the year, for use in vegetation analyses, environmental investigations, traffic analyses, etc.

The flying altitudes can be up to approximately 9 km (27,000 ft). Thus, photo scales in the range between approximately 1:2,000 and 1:60,000 can be selected. Photography with a normal angle camera is especially advisable for mapping of urban areas with high rise buildings and densely built-up areas.

COWI India can provide aerial photography services through COWI A/S.

Various applications of aerial photography

Aerial photographs carry huge amounts of analogue data. When interpreted, they provide valuable information for specialists from various fields such as:

  • Forestry and agriculture
  • Environmental monitoring and pollution investigations
  • Physical planning and administration
  • Geological and hydrological surveys

From time to time, aerial photographs can disclose traces from the past of invaluable importance to archaeology.

From recurrent aerial photography, comparable information is provided, thereby enabling documentation of development and change.
