COWI provides a multidisciplinary pool of expertise of port and harbour engineering for governments, private enterprises and contractors on both large and small-scale projects.

Range of experience

COWI has extensive experience of all types of ports and harbours, including container, bulk, liquid products and fishing.

Weather a multipurpose port, a captive port importing coal for power projects or an LNG terminal, we have the necessary expertise.

Our marine capability includes master planning of the ports and design of quays, jetties and breakwater.

In addition to marine engineering we have in-house capability that covers all associated landside requirements such as material handling systems, roads, rail, buildings, pavements and utilities.

Port and harbour developments

From new facilities to expansion of existing facilities, COWI provides comprehensive services for port and harbour developments, including:

  • Project definition and feasibility studies
  • Master planning and detailed project reports
  • Detailed design
  • Feed documentation for EPC tenders.
  • Environmental assessments
  • Procurement
  • Construction management and supervision
  • Maintenance management

Upgrading of existing facilities

Many existing ports require upgrading due to the trend towards increasing vessel size.

COWI analyses existing structures and designs appropriate strengthening works to enable the deepening of berths.
