For Ordnance Survey, Great Britain, COWI A/S and Kampsax India carry out a huge project that comprises update and positional accuracy improvement of their digital map data.

The purpose of this comprehensive assignment is to update Ordnance Survey’s map base by improving the accuracy of existing map features and updating data in rural areas of Great Britain in a 1:2,500 map scale. These new maps are the most accurate and up-to-date data sets in Great Britain.

OS MasterMap ®

The new and accurate data form the basis of the OS MasterMap ® which is a digital map framework through which customers can access the precise mapping data needed.
The OS MasterMap ® provides definitive information down to individual address, street and building level. It is available in four data layers: topography, address, imagery and integrated transport network.

About the project

The project includes aerial photography and ground control performed by COWI A/S, whereas Kampsax India carries out the aerial triangulation, digital terrain modelling, orthophoto generation and update and positional accuracy improvement (PAI) of the geographical database.

Positional accuracy improvement

The positional accuracy improvement of the maps undergoes a meticulous process. All staff are accredited under the OSGB quality assurance system. Kampsax India has developed a PAI tool in order to improve the quality of the product. The PAI tool is now patented and widely used by Kampsax India.
