COWI India Roads and Railways specialist will be participating in the "5th International Symposium on Highway Geometric Design", to be held on 22-24 June, 2015 at Vancouver, Canada.

Held every 5 years, the conference aims to encourage the continuous improvement in highway engineering and safety in geometric designs.

Focus of the event

The symposium focusses on informative podium sessions involving geometric design issues throughout the world, together with country reports featuring recent developments in road design, policy and practices, and technical software demos.

COWI's sustainable Road designs

Over the years, human society and the natural environment have become increasingly vulnerable to natural hazards. To minimise such risks, COWI continuously strives to provide sustainable road designs that help in preserving the environment and at the same time offer safety of human life.

Considering the above background, Ranadeep Basu - Principal Engineer at COWI India is representing COWI in this International seminar and showcasing his technical paper on "Geometric design of hill roads to minimize natural disaster damages". The paper presents a design approach, which accounts for the varying natural conditions along the hill roads and propose to adopt a best-fit technical solution, which will preserve the sensible hill slopes and natural drainage conditions.

He will also present "Country Report of India" highlighting the developments in highway geometric design aspects over the past 10 years. This is the first time when such a comprehensive report on India is being presented in this International symposium. Both the technical paper and report have been selected and approved by the Organizing Committee for presentation.

About the Presenter

Ranadeep is associated with COWI India since June 2014 and has rich experience in rehabilitation and expansion of existing highways, detail design of new road networks, highways and interchanges. He has worked in large infrastructure projects in India and Gulf countries over his career spanning more than 16 years.
